West Kirby marine lake is one of the top windsurfing locations in the North West. If the wind is right it attracts large numbers of sailors from far and wide. This year we have been invited to race on the lake by Simon Smith, Chief Instructor at Wirral Sailing Centre (See www.wirral.gov.uk). There is a car park, a large rigging area, and showers/changing rooms at the sailing centre at the north-west end of the lake.

There is a webcam at the lake - www.wirralcam.com which also gives access to images from Leasowe, Rhosneiger, Hilbre island and more.

The lake is suitable for all abilities unless it is particularly windy as it is in such an exposed position. If it is windy it will get quite busy with shortboarders blasting up and down alongside the wall so arrive early to get a good parking spot. Be sure to bring your own lunch as there is no "club house". Cold drinks and ice creams are available nearby and no-wind entertainment is available in the form of donkey rides. This is also a good location for sailing on the sea when the tide is right.

West Kirby is easy to find on the end of the Wirral peninsular and is well signposted from the M53 Motorway (leave at junction 2).

As this is an open, public, area you are reminded to keep your vehicle locked and look after your belongings.

Saturday the 19th July is a Team 15 event at West Kirby.
